How long does a refund from a failed swap usually take to arrive

A refund from a failed swap typically arrives within a few minutes to a few hours after the failure is detected. In rare cases where manual review is needed, it can take up to 24 hours.

You send from your own wallet straight to the exchanger — nothing to connect, no account, and you stay on this page throughout. Rates are indicative until a swap is opened.

The swap is carried out by an independent exchanger and the deposit address above is theirs. dgnx.finance never holds, receives or controls your funds, has no key to that address, and earns a referral commission. Opening a swap sends your receiving address, IP, browser and timezone to the exchanger for their compliance checks; we store none of it. Check their terms, fees and country restrictions before sending anything.

The timing depends on several factors. Most refunds are automated. When a swap fails - because the deposit was too small, the wrong asset, or the quote expired - the system checks what went wrong and returns the funds to the sender address automatically. That process completes in minutes on most blockchains. For Bitcoin, it can take longer because the refund itself is a new transaction that must be confirmed.

If the failure is straightforward - the deposit arrived but the swap could not execute - the refund is usually the fastest. The system sees the deposit, attempts the swap, fails, and sends the funds back. The whole loop takes the time required for one or two blockchain confirmations. On Ethereum or BNB Smart Chain, that is often under a minute. On Bitcoin, it is roughly ten to sixty minutes depending on network congestion and the fee the refund transaction pays.

Longer waits happen when the failure is ambiguous. If the system cannot determine whether the deposit was actually intended for the swap address, a human may need to check. That happens most often when a user sends a deposit after the quote has expired. The address is tied to a specific quote; if the quote is dead, the system may not know how to classify the incoming funds. In those cases, a staff member reviews the transaction and manually initiates the refund. That adds hours, occasionally a full day.

Another cause of delay is the blockchain itself. A refund is a transaction like any other. If the network is congested, the refund transaction might sit unconfirmed for hours. The exchanger does not control the block time. They can increase the fee to speed it up, but they rarely do for refunds - they treat refunds as lower priority than swaps. That is a design choice, not a bug.

You can reduce the chance of a long wait by following the swap instructions exactly. Send exactly the quoted amount from the address you specified. Do not send a second deposit to the same address - that almost always forces manual review. And do not send after the timer expires. If you do those things and the swap still fails, the refund is usually fast.

If more than 24 hours pass, contact support with the swap ID and the transaction hash of your deposit. That lets them find your funds in the system. Without those details, they have to search by address, which takes longer.

The broader question of what you can actually get back - whether the refund includes the network fee you paid, or whether you lose the transaction fee entirely - is covered on the hub page titled "What you can recover from a failed swap." That page explains which parts of your deposit are returned and which parts are gone permanently.
