How to time a swap so your deposit arrives before the rate expires
Send the deposit transaction as soon as the rate is locked, not after. The clock starts ticking the moment the exchange quotes you a fixed rate, and most providers give you a window measured in minutes - often between 10 and 30. If your deposit arrives after that window closes, the exchange will either recalculate the rate or cancel the order.

Status: waiting for your deposit
You send from your own wallet straight to the exchanger — nothing to connect, no account, and you stay on this page throughout. Rates are indicative until a swap is opened.
The swap is carried out by an independent exchanger and the deposit address above is theirs. dgnx.finance never holds, receives or controls your funds, has no key to that address, and earns a referral commission. Opening a swap sends your receiving address, IP, browser and timezone to the exchanger for their compliance checks; we store none of it. Check their terms, fees and country restrictions before sending anything.
Why timing matters
A cryptocurrency swap is not instantaneous. When you initiate a trade, the exchange reserves a specific rate based on current market conditions. That rate is volatile. The exchange assumes you will send funds promptly. If you delay, the market may move against the exchange's position, and it will not honor the original quote.
The typical timeline works like this:
- You request a quote on the swap site. The exchange shows a rate and a countdown timer.
- You copy the deposit address and send your coins from your wallet.
- The transaction must be confirmed on the blockchain before the timer expires.
- Once the deposit is confirmed, the exchange processes the swap at the locked rate.
What trips people up: the timer starts when the quote is generated, not when you send the transaction. If you pause to double-check the address, switch wallets, or wait for a cheaper gas price, you eat into that window.
How to estimate the time you have
Check the quote timer first. If it shows 15 minutes, your deposit needs to be confirmed in 15 minutes or less. Then estimate how long your transaction will take to confirm:
- Bitcoin: 10 - 60 minutes on average, longer if the network is congested.
- Ethereum: depends on gas price. With a high fee, 30 seconds to a few minutes. With a low fee, hours.
- Polygon, BNB Chain, Solana: usually under a minute.
If the quote timer is 10 minutes and you are sending Bitcoin, you will almost certainly miss it. Do not start that swap unless you are prepared to accept a new rate.
Practical steps to avoid missing the window
Set your gas fee before you request the quote. If your wallet lets you adjust fees, choose a fast or aggressive option. Do not request a quote and then open your wallet to check gas prices. That delay costs you seconds you may not have.
Have the receiving wallet open and the deposit address pre-copied. Some swap sites generate a new address for each order. Do not request the quote until you are ready to paste that address and hit send.
Use a wallet that shows pending transaction status. If your wallet only updates after a block confirmation, you cannot see whether your transaction is in the mempool. That uncertainty is dangerous when the clock is running.
If you are unsure about network congestion, request a quote and immediately look up the current average confirmation time for that blockchain. Many block explorers show live estimates. If the estimate exceeds half the quote timer, cancel and try again when the network is quieter.
What happens if you miss the window
The exchange will not process the swap at the quoted rate. You will see one of two outcomes:
- The swap site tells you the rate expired and asks you to confirm a new one.
- The swap site treats your deposit as an unsolicited transfer and holds the funds until you contact support.
If you are told the rate expired, you can usually accept the new rate or request a refund. The new rate may be worse, but that is better than losing the funds to a support ticket.
If the site simply absorbs your deposit, you need to follow the process described in the hub page "Swapping crypto safely" - specifically the section on what to do when you have sent funds but nothing happens. That page explains how to verify the order status, contact the exchange, and provide the transaction ID.
One more thing to check
Before you send, confirm that the deposit address matches the network you are using. If you send Ethereum to a Bitcoin address, the transaction will fail or be lost. The rate timer is irrelevant at that point. The hub page covers that scenario in detail under "Recovering coins after pasting an address from a different network into a swap form." Read that page if you are not certain about network compatibility.
